The viking invasion of York took place in the year 866. The city was captured and made the capital of the Viking territory in Northern England. The Vikings changed the name of the city to ‘Jorvik’ which is still used in many places in the city today.
Like modern day JiuJitsu players the Vikings had their own form of hand-to-hand fighting skills. When used for fun and not on the battle field this form of wrestling became the most popular sport in Viking age Scandinavia.
